A Career As A Paralegal

A job as a paralegal can be the ideal career for anyone interested in working in the legal field, but not wanting to study for several years. Paralegals assist lawyers with their workload, and can be responsible for helping a lawyer prepare for his or her trial, meeting or hearing. Much of the work involves collecting, organizing and presenting information as well as checking various facts and information. Many paralegals also help to prepare a lawyer's notes and arguments for a case, and although much of the work is done by computer, a paralegal can also expect to spend a lot of time in libraries, courthouses and government offices. To be a paralegal, it helps if you are well organized, detail oriented and methodical

There are no specific educational requirements for being a paralegal, although a program or course that covers all the areas of interest is recommended. You can choose to major in paralegal studies at some colleges and universities, and being certified is also a sensible strategy. Certification programs can be found at some colleges, community colleges and specialist educational facilities. Of course, it also helps if you have some type of 'hands on' experience, such as having volunteered a t a local law firm, or something similar. An Associates Degree is recommended, although not mandatory and the American Bar Association can provide you with a list of approved schools and colleges if you are thinking of adopting this approach.

It is also a well paid job, with the average salary for a paralegal Ontario hovering around $51,000 per year. The salary can vary according to the company you work for, the tasks and duties that are expected of you, as well as the area of the country that you are located in. The salaries in California are above the national average, due to the high cost of living in much of the state. In addition, growth prospects for paralegals are generally good, and qualified paralegals are expected to be increasingly in demand during the next few year.  For anyone with the relevant skills and interests, it can be a rewarding and satisfting career.
